The Call Of The River

I am not sure why I feel at peace by water but I’ve been that way since my childhood summers watching the flash of a kingfisher racing past. Wallace J. Nichols calls this state of contentment the Blue Mind “A mildly meditative state characterized by calm, peace, unity, and a sense of general happiness and satisfaction with life in the moment.”

This feeling lead me to the Lake District on a quest to build a Canadian canoe and she’s beautifully imperfect! Billie has taught me that fighting the flow of the water is futile, you need to blend yourself with the energy.

This lesson did not come easy to me. I am a fighter. But, in the brief moments of synchronicity, I became one with nature. Feeling my place in the ebb and flow of life. For the first time, in a long time, it was enough.
